Camp Lifeguard
Curtis is seeking a summer day camp Lifeguard to join a supportive, inclusive, and educational learning community as a member of the camp team. Curtis School is a DK-6 co-ed elementary school whose mission is to “develop, in every child, a sound mind in a sound body, governed by a compassionate heart.”
Our team of lifeguards plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of all campers and staff around the water. We are looking for responsible, alert, and enthusiastic individuals to join our team as Lifeguards for the summer camp season.
We place an equal emphasis on physical, social-emotional, and character education and instill a growth mindset modeled by faculty and staff who are the best in their craft. The Summer Camp Lifeguard will be responsible for overseeing all water-related activities, ensuring the safety of campers and staff at the pool. The lifeguard will monitor water conditions, provide immediate rescue and first aid if needed, enforce camp safety rules, and maintain a positive and safe camp atmosphere. This is a highly visible and important role that requires strong leadership, vigilance, and the ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergencies.

Duties and Responsibilities
Include, but are not limited to:
Supervises swimming activities at the pool area and ensures that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed.
Monitor all swimming activities at the camp’s pool to ensure the safety of all participants.
Educates swimmers about improper activities and dangers and enforces pool regulations and water safety policies.
Provide immediate rescue and first aid care when necessary, including performing CPR, emergency treatment, and administering first aid as required.
Maintain a high level of awareness while observing campers, and intervene in unsafe situations immediately to prevent accidents.
Monitor and maintain the lifeguard equipment (e.g., rescue tubes, first aid kits, life jackets) and report any damaged or missing items to camp management.
Assist with opening and closing duties, including setting up equipment and ensuring the pool or water area is clean and free of hazards.
Remain off of personal devices at all times during the camp day, with the exception of staff member’s break.
Serve as a role model to campers by demonstrating professionalism, good judgment, and positive behavior at all times.
Report any incidents, accidents, or safety concerns to the Camp Director and document them as needed.
Performs various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility.
Check and maintain proper chlorine and PH count of pool water several times a day.
Conduct daily safety checks of all the pool areas.
Ensure all pool doors/gates and pool areas are secured at the conclusion of all pool activities.
Instructs or assists classes in fundamentals of swimming.
Inspects pool facilities, equipment, and water to ensure that they are safe and usable.
Assists in monitoring and cleaning locker room area(s) and related facilities and equipment.
Qualifications & Skills
A successful candidate must:
Possess a current Lifeguarding Certificate from a Certified Trainer
Possess a current CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid certificate from a Certified Trainer
Be at least 18 years of age
Be available to work from June 23, 2025 - August 1, 2025
Be able to adhere to a 8:30 am - 2:30 pm daily work schedule
